An Even Closer Walk

Today my daughter hugged me and I hugged her back. Immediately afterwards, I simply told her to take a bath. She hesitated not wanting to stop what she was doing. So I said, ” You have to be clean especially since you are a hugger.” Then she replied, “Well, I guess I won’t hug you anymore.” I admit, I chuckled and thought what kind of sense does that make? She would rather avoid closeness with me than to do something I’ve asked her to do. Later, as I was doing the dishes, it hit me that many children of God are the same way. Remember that children are children and they tend to do the things that children do. For example, we know that God initially tells us to come as we are and that in the process of growth we are expected to allow him to deep clean every area of our lives over time. Growth is a process and how much we grow is in direct connection with our proximity with God. Sometimes we come close enough to mark off our checklist of things a Christian does and then we are satisfied, but Our Father wants us to come even closer. We think, “But haven’t I given you this or didn’t I do that?” He wants it all. Let me be the first to admit that as a born again daughter of the king, there are times when I shy away from the closeness with which God has called me to walk. God will put something new in my heart and there is a rush of excitement, and then fear and anxiety will began to knock on the door. I think it is because He declares things in our lives that we can’t even imagine. He calls it forth before we can see it in the natural. We try to hang on to good enough and right now, while he tries to lead us to what’s next according to His will and purpose. Let’s take a minute and listen to the heart of God at Isaiah 55:3. Here the Lord says, “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.” Isaiah chapter 55 makes a plea for us to come to the Father so He can accomplish his will through us. It is by drawing close to God that ministries are birthed and we impact this world for Christ. May we come so close to God that we embrace all that he is by completely submitting to his love and walking side by side with him until we finally reach our heavenly home.

  1. The world competes with our time with GOD We have to be carful about the many things we do in the church and the community We have to make sure that our time is balanced

    1. I agree. I had to learn that the hard way. Burn out is no fun. I am learning to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit instead of deciding for myself what I will and will not volunteer to do. It’s so much easier to do it God’s way. Thanks for commenting. :0)

  2. There’s a need in my heart for more of you, lord, A need in my heart for more of you, So I steal, I steal away to find a quiet nook, And I read, read the pages of your precious book, And I find I am satisfied anew- I find I am satisfied with You!
